To commemorate the momentous opening of the Whittome Community Garden on Sunday, a wall art mural was presented by Nexus Grant artist Brooke Mathews. We talk more about the wall art mural and art exhibition, and the catalogue of artworks available for purchase.
Brooke’s wall art mural is a project of great collaboration. The work is inspired by her Indigenous heritage, which she has been exploring alongside DADAA Indigenous art mentor Millie Penny. It combines native and nature themes that complement the community garden.
The Nexus Grant aims to provide young artists with disability the opportunity to build on their skills and become artists in their own right. It was a pleasure to have both Millie and DADAA Development Director Ricky Arnold there with Brooke to mark this celebratory event.
At the opening event, guests were invited to the art exhibition, curated by Manager Program Development Bithika Kastha. The artworks by our talented 2017 As We Are artists were on show in their full glory.
You can read about the 2017 exhibition here.
The featured artists include:

- Naomi Meyerink
- Annie Slater
- Karli Warr

Some artists came along for the exhibition and were delighted to see their work on display. It was a wonderful opportunity for the local community to see the results of their hard work and talents. One painting was even sold on the day!
