Become a recycling champion this National Recycling Week

The theme of this year’s National Recycling Week (8 to 14 November) is to “Celebrate National Recycling Week YOUR way!”

There’s plenty of ways you can celebrate and become a recycling champion all whilst supporting people with disability through Workpower.

Give items a second life
If you’ve just done a spring clean out or have been driving around with your donations in the back of your car waiting for the perfect time to donate your preloved goods – now is the time to visit one of our reuse and recycling shops to donate – Balcatta Recycling Shop and/or Tamala Park Reuse Shop. The kind of pre-loved household items we’d love to see include crockery, picture frames, sporting goods, kids toys, gardening equipment and furniture. For a full list of accepted items visit our FAQs.

Buy second-hand
Pop into one of our reuse stores (Balcatta Recycling Shop, Tamala Park Reuse Shop or in a couple of weeks our City of Canning Reuse Market) and grab yourself a bargain, giving pre-loved items a second life! You’ll find a host of treasures which have even included a jukebox, garden sculptures, sporting memorabilia, solar panels and so much more.

Reduce landfill
We all love our curbside recycling bins, but there’s a host of “harder to recycle” items that don’t belong in the bin like paint, polystyrene, batteries, chemicals and household goods. We’ve got you covered with our recycling drop off facilities. Just visit our Balcatta Recycling Shop or our Tamala Park Reuse Shop.

Get paid for recycling
Through the Containers for Change program, you can receive 10 cents for every eligible container you return to our collection points. Why not visit one of our two refund points powered by Return It and Workpower in Welshpool and Malaga this National Recycling Week and cash in your containers.

Commit beyond the home
There’s a number of different recycling services you can commit to outside the home, to ensure your community group or workplace is doing everything it can to become recycling champions too. Get in touch with us to have a containers for change bin installed in your office to make cashing in your containers even easier! Or sign up for our fire extinguisher recycling program which partners with Hazrad Australia and aims to strip each expired extinguisher for its parts for recycling, on top of providing employment for 20 people with disability.
