This year we’ve continued to reach out to our customers and get involved with the community at Balcatta. As a result, we’ve been able to support a number of local causes and community groups who are achieving great outcomes! Here are some that we’ve supported in 2019.
Helping others in need
At Workpower we firmly believe in the value of supporting others. This is why we were keen to help when we heard about the Perth Homeless Support Group (PHSG) and the support they offer those in need.
As a not-for-profit organisation they feed over 200 people each Sunday at an outreach post in Wellington Square, Perth. This includes providing food and beverages such as sandwiches, baked goods, and hot tea and coffee.
They also offer clothing, blankets, camping gear, backpacks, and toiletries, which we donated at various occasions through the year. In addition, the team provided work clothing and shoes to help those wanting to find work.
“We are very grateful to have received such generous support in donations from the Balcatta Recycling Shop,” says Jed Fay, PHSN Volunteer Coordinator.
“Thank you for seeing the need and making a difference.”
Bread Tags for Wheelchairs
This charity takes recycling bread tags to a whole new level! Recycled tags from collection points across Australia, New Zealand, and the US are used to purchase wheelchairs for people with disability or medical conditions in Cape Town, South Africa.
The BRS became one of those collection points in October, and we’ve already had many customers bring in their stash of tags! You can find the box at the front of our register.
Looking out for the locals
If you’ve paid us a visit this year then you’d recognise a large industrial mixer sitting at the front of our shop. This is where we collect coins for local community groups like the Karrinyup Men’s Shed. Each group or club will collect several months’ worth of donations before we rotate to a different cause.
We also promote and sell the work of several local artists and craftsman, with all proceeds going back to the creators.
If you’re part of a community group or business and you’d like to get involved, then give us a shout! Contact our team today at 1800 610 665 or on email.
