It’s hard to believe that our Defence Administration Assistance Program (DAAP) at the HMAS Stirling in now into its fourth year. In that time we’ve helped Defence staff stay organised and on top of their admin duties, and developed strong relationships in the process.
In particular, the DAAP team fostered a strong partnership with the Chaplaincy Centre. Since the program started we assisted staff with their fortnightly BBQ networking lunch. Each team member now excels at coordinating responsibilities, preparing ingredients, and making sure each event is a hit.
These BBQs provide great opportunities for Defence and civilian staff on the naval base to meet and develop new working relationships. It’s also helped us get the word out about our services and offer admin support to other departments.
Mid last year the DAAP team got an opportunity to try their hand at fundraising. They got hands-on and held their very own bake sale to raise money towards an end-of-year Christmas party. The team made a delectable range of homemade baked goods, which they sold for a $1 each.
Not only did they raise funds but it gave them the opportunity to expand on their interpersonal skills, and customer service and cash handling experience.
A celebratory feast
To thank the Chaplaincy team for their support, we agreed to host a lunch to celebrate. The team worked together to develop a supply list and get everything ready for a big BBQ feast. As seasoned event organisers we efficiently prepared all ingredients, set up the picnic space, and pulled off a great event.
We saw a good turn out and the Chaplaincy truly appreciated the gesture. Staff also pointed out the difference three years of working together has made. Among other qualities, a significant boost in our team’s confidence, skills, and the strength of our partnership was recognised.
Thank you for your ongoing support! We look forward to seeing where our partnership will go in the new year.
