Since working with our Community Programs team, Dale has pursued new challenges and engaged with his local community like never before! As someone with a wide range of interests and ambitions, we’re happy to work with other organisations and groups to help Dale achieve his unique goals.
A supportive network
Dale has a number of different goals he’s identified as part of his NDIS plan. To best support these goals, he is supported by three of our Community Support Officers (CSOs), each helping him build on different skills throughout the week. Some of these goals include volunteering, engaging with the local community, and building independence and personal finance skills.
For a year now he’s volunteered at another social enterprise, AYLA (Assisting Your Life To Achieve) in Cockburn. Dale helps out in a number of roles, including assisting with their op shop, food store, cafe, and hairdresser. He’s now a valued member of their team.
And on top of all these extra activities, he also works at our Packaging & Warehousing division in Bibra Lake.
Giving back to the community
It’s been a busy year for Dale so far, and he’s showing no signs of stopping yet!
Just several months ago he decided to take the pledge and say goodbye to his hair for the World’s Greatest Shave! Building up to the event, Dale organised a BBQ fundraiser at his Packaging & Warehousing workplace to raise money for the charitable cause. The team got behind Dale and managed to meet his fundraising target of $200 from the BBQ event alone!
He then reached out to his wider support network on the day of the shave and raised over $1000!
Building on his work for the community, Dale recently became a The Big Issue magazine seller. Like us, they provide employment opportunities and raise funds for disadvantaged or marginalised people. So far he’s sold as many as 10 magazines in one day!
Dale is working hard to save money from selling The Big Issue for a UK trip to visit his brother. With the support of his CSOs and volunteering work he’s learning to manage his resources and personal savings, be independent, and work towards his long-term aspirations! He’s got a passion for helping others and a hardworking attitude – we’ve no doubt he’ll succeed.
Well done Dale, you’re an inspiration to us all!
Keep a lookout for him in his high-vis Big Issue gear somewhere in Perth city or Fremantle.
