It’s not everyday that you find yourself doing something this meaningful for a good cause.
Dale, one of our Packaging & Warehousing Bibra Lake employees, did just that. When we heard that he signed up for the Leukemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave, we just had to help him reach his fundraising goal!
A superhero in the making
For those who don’t know Dale, he always rocks an awesome hairstyle. Every few weeks he’ll come into work with a new style or cut, or even a new design on his sides or a mohawk! He’s not afraid to change things up, and it’s clear that he takes pride in his funky hairdos. We think they’re awesome as well!
But Dale is also keen on giving back to the community and helping others.
So he decided to sacrifice his lovely hair for a meaningful cause! Dale signed up for the World’s Greatest Shave, and the proceeds go towards funding blood cancer research and providing support for families affected. It claims more lives that melanoma or breast cancer, and affects over 60,000 Australians.
Bibra Lake supervisor Hannah Elliott wasted no time in getting the team and the rest of the organisation behind him! Dale had a whole team of supporters, including his CSO Sami, the Community Programs team, and also a not-for-profit charity group, AYLA, where he volunteers part-time.
On the 15th May we held a BBQ fundraiser onsite, and everyone from the organisation was invited to join. Each visitor was asked to bring in a small donation, all of which went towards Dale’s cause.
His goal was $200, however little did he know how many people would visit and donate.
Dale raised over $200 just from the BBQ alone! And everyone had a great time getting their hair spray-painted for the occasion.
The great shave
Many of them came to show support at his big shave event at his home. AYLA’s in-house hairdresser even came to do the great honour of shaving his head.
And guess what – at the end of the day, Dale ended up with a whopping $1050!
He admits he was a little scared to shave, but at the end of the day, he was happy to help others.
Well done Dale – not everyone could do what you did! Congratulations on a successful fundraiser!
