Now that the SLES is available in WA, young people with disability have access to more employment options and supports.
We’re thrilled, as this allows us to provide support through the entire employment journey – from Year 10, to leaving high school, and transitioning into the workforce!
Here are the different ways we support you at every stepping stone towards your employment goal:
School to Work Transition
We understand that making decisions about the future can be daunting. That’s why we assist young people from Year 10 onwards to start thinking about their priorities – whether it’s further education, experience, or employment.
We work alongside parents and carers to explore your unique dreams and aspirations, and tailor a program around your needs.
This program can include:
- Helping you decide your short and long-term goals
- Building self-care skills and capacity
- Exploring different work options
- Developing work-related skills, like using public transport
This is a great way to get firsthand work experience in a safe, supportive environment.
Students may also have the opportunity to experience work firsthand at one of our commercial businesses.
We operate within a number of industries, which include packaging and warehousing, a wholesale nursery, and property and garden maintenance. Our various work sites are located across the Metro region.
Students will be guided and supported through the placement by our team of experienced support staff. You will:
- Learn about the workplace
- Work alongside other employees as part of a team
- Perform regular duties and assist with contracts
School Leaver Employment Support (SLES)
Just finished school but not quite ready for a job? The SLES can help you get there!
This support is designed specifically for those not directly eligible for the Disability Employment Services (DES). It allows us to support students for up to two years after leaving school.
We can help you to build your independence, develop work related skills, and gain work experience in open employment. And don’t worry – we’ll be there to help you transition into employment when you’re ready.
