Your NDIS journey, explained

Your NDIS journey, explained

As the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) rolls out across WA, you may have some questions about the scheme, eligibility, and how it can support you. Don’t worry – we have you covered: this guide holds all the resources you need at every step of your journey with the NDIS. Let’s get started!

What is the NDIS?

The NDIS is a lifetime approach that provides people with significant or permanent disability the supports needed to live fulfilling lives.

Here’s what you need to know:

In December 2017, WA joined the rest of Australia under the NDIS. This meant that participants under the WA NDIS would be transitioned over to the NDIA-run system by 1st July 2018.

The NDIS is being rolled out across the state in stages, and is set to finish by the end of this year. Here are some upcoming NDIS information events for areas where the scheme is introduced.

Your NDIS Plan

Once you’ve met the conditions for becoming a participant, you will be contacted by an NDIS representative or Local Area Coordinator to start your first plan.

Here’s what you need to know:

Getting the most out of your plan

Each participant is allocated funding to achieve the goals they identified in their plans. These can be used for a number of supports in different categories.

Did you know that the NDIS can provide 150 hours of support for young people looking to transition to employment?

Make sure to talk to your LAC, Support Coordinator, or planner to add this to your plan. Here are the ways we can support your employment journey.

You will also have the chance to review your NDIS plan every 12 months to ensure that you’re getting the support you need.
