NDIS March 2020: the latest price guide

The latest NDIS Price Guide is in effect since 1st March 2020 and, like previous guides, includes several significant changes to transport. Here’s an overview of what’s new and how it affects you.

Changes to transport support

The NDIS introduced major adjustments to transport supports in the latest guide. You can download them below:

If you access community-based supports you can now use your budget to access supports for each activity. This includes transport to community activities funded by your plan.

This change covers the following supports:

  • Finding and Keeping a Job
  • Improved Living Arrangements
  • Improved Relationships and Learning
  • Increased Social and Community Participation
  • Assistance with Social and Community Participation

This is called Activity Based Transport and is considered a part of the service provider’s support. That means the funds allocated to the particular support activity pay for your transport. It also means that they can only be claimed by the service provider providing the activity.

If you’d like this support, you will need to discuss this with your service provider and agree on a rate. The NDIS provides the following recommendations for charges:

  • Maximum $0.85/km for vehicles not modified for accessibility
  • Up to $2.40/km for modified vehicles or buses

Additional transport costs like road tolls and parking may need to be claimed up to the full amount.

Once you’ve agreed with your service provider you can begin claiming this support. It’s important to remember that transport will be claimed separately from your usual support.

If you’re seeking other supports, there are services to help you to access non-support activities or supports by other service providers. This is considered General Transport and is claimed using your transport funding budget. For full details on transport check out our in-depth resources

Activity Based Transport can help you access your community supports and provides more options for using your budget. However, if you’re concerned that you won’t have enough funding to cover transport, then you can request a plan review.
