NDIS: Reviewing your NDIS plan

NDIS: Reviewing your NDIS plan

You’ve got your first NDIS plan and you’re receiving supports and services to help you in daily life – what’s next? In order to ensure you get the most out of your supports, you will have a plan review after the first 12 months.

What you need to know

This is the opportunity for you to reflect on your supports and ask yourself:

  • What are my short and long term goals?
  • Are there any gaps in my current supports?
  • Are the services flexible to my needs?
  • How am I progressing towards my personal goals, outlined in my plan?
  • Do I need to change supports or services?
  • Do I have any feedback on the implementation of my supports?

Close to the period, you’ll be contacted by an NDIS representative who will arrange a meeting, so there’s no need to do anything else. Feel free to bring along a family member or support person with you.

When does my review happen?

The first review is within the first 12 months of implementing your NDIS plan. You can consult your NDIS representative on when you’d like to schedule your next review or of any significant upcoming changes to your circumstances. Generally, they occur every two years.

Implementing changes

If you’d like to change providers or services, or your circumstances have changed, you need to let your representative know. Depending on the change, they may be able to approve it or may need to consult others first. Regardless, if changes are made they will contact you to explain what happens now and any changes to funding. You will be provided details of your new plan and will be able to access it online.

It’s important to remember that any unspent funding will not roll over to the new plan after review. You will also need to contact your service providers about any changes to your service or length of plan.

Rest assured, you’re covered

Your current supports remain unchanged during the review process. And if there’s a gap between the end of the first plan and the start of your new plan including any changes, then the original plan will just be extended until that date. The same goes for any delays in plan review.
