SHP introduces cricket for all abilities

School Holiday Program (SHP) Coordinator Sara gives us the low-down on our first inclusive cricket activity. Plus we hear highlights from another terrific January program.

Cricket for days

Our very first cricket day was held on January 16th at Alderbury Reserve in Floreat. We partnered with Wembley Districts Junior Cricket Club (WDJCC) and the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) to introduce this special activity to our participants this year.

Club members and support staff got everyone involved in the game. We made small teams where the each player learned the right techniques and practiced their skills before the game.

However, the best thing was that no experience was necessary. It was about enjoying themselves, learning something new, and having a go. Better yet, it was inclusive for all ages, abilities, and boys and girls alike.

Integrated cricket brought out the natural talent and interest of some of our participants. It was a great way to push their agility, coordination, and build confidence in their abilities.

In summary everyone enjoyed it so much, and we’re keen to do it again in April!

A big thank you to both WDJCC and WACA for your support and for providing this inclusive and dynamic activity.

If you’re interested in having fun and learning to play cricket in a friendly environment, contact Margie Oldfield here or on 0416 025 724. No experience necessary, and everybody is welcome!

Making summer holiday memories

There’s nothing like getting out and having fun in the lovely weather. January is one of our most popular programs, which includes plenty of SHP favourites like:

  • Dance and party sessions
  • Creative baking and arts & craft
  • Outdoor laser tag and gymnastics
  • Trips to parks, water playgrounds, and the Herdsman Lake Wildlife Centre

Activities are designed to create opportunities for children and young people with disability to build new friendships. In addition, we cultivate supportive and safe environments where they can be creative, have fun, and learn new life skills.

SHP returns in April: this program gets filled quickly, so get in touch with us today to secure your place! Call 1800 610 665 or email us here.
