We’ve got a great story to share leading up to International Day of People with Disability 2018. One of our Customer Consultants, Jan, has been working with a bright young woman named Tegan. She joined us in October and since then we’ve put her NDIS plan into action – she’s already started working in two different roles! Tegan, her family, and her support team are thrilled at her fast progress in these weeks.
New opportunities with the NDIS
Tegan had received supports from other providers for some time, but felt that she wasn’t getting the most out of her plan. As a warm and enthusiastic individual keen to get work experience, we wasted no time in finding opportunities that suited her interests. Within weeks of joining us, we got to know Tegan and the goals she identified in her plan. We then worked to secure two positions that suit her interests.
The first was at our Packaging & Warehousing site in Malaga. Tegan started over a month ago and works there on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
So far, it’s been a perfect fit. Each Packaging employee begins with a 12 month trial period where they try a range of processes to find what suits them best. So far, Tegan has completed work with washers, noodles, and fly traps and has quickly picked up the skills needed to complete contracts.
Not only has she adapted to her new work environment with ease, but she’s also been warmly welcomed by the team!
Tegan also identified an interest in work experience in the retail industry, and we found a perfect opportunity at the Best and Less store in Ellenbrook.
She works there for three hours per week and helps meet and greet customers. It’s a great chance for her to build her customer service skills, grow connections, and develop her communication skills. Tegan likes clothes and is very excited to be working in such a dynamic environment. She also helps with maintaining the shop floor and organising stock.
It’s clear to see that Tegan is in her element and enjoying herself. The staff at Best and Less are also grateful for her work – there’s even a possibility to grow and extend her placement!
Getting the right support
Tegan and her family are thrilled by her rapid progress so far, and we couldn’t be happier to help. Our team support Tegan during her work and help her build on the skills she’s gained from employment.
Now Tegan is more confident and wants to pursue a formal qualification that will go towards her career goals. Well done Tegan, you’re a star!
Through our Customised Employment initiative, we can help people like Tegan find the right opportunities to develop their work skills. If you’d like further information on our range of employment supports, contact us here or on 1800 610 665!
