The WADEs shine at the Celebration and Business Expo!

What an event! Over 200 guests came to celebrate with us at the WADE Celebration and Business Expo on Wednesday. Here’s more details about the awards, expo, and incredible outcomes this strong alliance has achieved this year.

Outstanding social procurement

As this year’s hosts and one of the eight disability enterprises, we went all out to put on a celebration to remember! We were blessed to have the Hon. Stephen Dawson, Minister for Disability Services, as guest speaker and co-presenter of the awards, alongside our CEO Lee Broomhall.

This year we decided to do something different. We wanted the trophies to not only represent the strong union between the WADEs and the private and public sector, but also our ongoing commitment to sustainability. This is ultimately an investment in the future and the driving force behind our work.

That’s why the trophies were specifically designed in the form of a peak, and from 100% recycled or salvaged materials and FSC certified sustainable timber.

We had three outstanding social procurement awards to present to those who have truly embraced the WADEs in various contracts. Congratulations to the winners:

Loop Upcycling
Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions – Parks and Wildlife Service
City of Gosnells

However, the WA Police are in a league of their own – having engaged six out of the eight organisations in contracts like painting, catering, cleaning, and gardening, they received the Champions of Social Procurement award.

Congratulations to all the worthy winners!

Business Expo

The ceremony was followed by the Business Expo as part of the Department of Finance’s Australian Disability Enterprise (ADE) Initiative.

Representatives from across the private and public sector had the opportunity to engage with each of the organisations and their capabilities during the Expo.

This includes Shadow Minister for Housing and Disability Services Hon Peter Charles Collier, Acting Commissioner for Equal Opportunity in WA Dr. John Byrne, Department of Finance Director General Jodi Cant, City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull, and City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin.

There were also representatives from BuyAbility, WALGA, and the Department of Finance. Guests mingled and enjoyed delicious refreshments and platters from our very own 1905 Catering.

The WADEs, consisting of Activ, Good Samaritan Industries (GSI), Goodwill Engineering, Intelife, Paraquad Industries, Shire of Manjimup, Westcare, and Workpower, are known to provide first-class quality products and services across a wide range of industries in WA.
