Introducing… Marvellous Milly!

Milly is a superhero in our Recycling team!

She works at two of our Recycling Centres, at Tamala Park and Balcatta. Her role is to ensure that recycled items are prepared for re-sale at our Reuse Shops and waste products are processed for recycling.

But, Milly's superpower Workpower doesn't stop there - she's also a leader and a friend to new staff members, referred to as a ‘Buddy’. Milly guides them through their first days on the job with kindness and patience, until they feel comfortable on their own.

"I've been with Workpower for about 2 years now," Milly shared. Before joining Workpower, she was with another provider.

“I feel valued as a person here, not just a number. Plus, I've made so many friends!"

One of Milly's key roles is being a buddy to new team members. "Whenever new people come in, I show them around and tell them what we're all about," Milly explains.

"Milly is our go-to buddy for any new members of staff that come through the door,” Her manager, Deb shared. "We tend to buddy everybody up with Milly because she is a great at explaining things and being a friend."

“She puts new staff at ease, helping them settle in until they feel comfortable on their own. She's gentle, kind, and explains things in a way that makes them feel welcome."

When Milly isn't busy ‘buddying’, she enjoys pitching in on the shop floor, whether it's putting items away or helping out at the till.

When asked about her favourite thing at  work, she couldn’t decide!

"I love everything about my job," Milly shared, “I like showing new people around, I like the team and I like my tasks around the shop.”

Outside of work, Milly has a passion for horse riding, a hobby she's pursued for 16 years.

"I don't have a horse yet, but I'd love to have one one day."

As for her future, Milly is content at Workpower but has dreams of participating in rodeo barrel racing.

"I'm happy here, but I'd also love to try barrel racing," she shares. "I've been practicing, and so far, I haven't knocked over any barrels!"

For those considering joining Workpower, Milly has some words of encouragement: "It's really, really fun. I've learned so much, like about battery recycling, which I didn't know before working at Tamala. You'll meet new friends here.”
