Lochlan’s Employment Success!
Lochlan's Workpower journey started in November 2023 with the hopes of finding a job!
Lochlan has a passion for all things computing and a work background in fruit picking. He wanted to find employment that would keep him busy and on his toes. This preference, of course, comes with both physical and mental challenges.
With help from his Support Coach, Noah, Lochlan decided to touch up his resume.
“We had a meeting with Lochlan’s manager at Workpower to discuss different avenues of work. Lochlan showed high levels of maturity during these meetings and asked many questions about the different jobs that we were discussing,” said Noah.
By the following week, Lochlan was taking his resume to many different potential employers.
“During these discovery visits, Lochlan showed great confidence when approaching potential employers and was very effective in actively listening. He would also ask questions about various roles to show his interest.”
Lochlan and Noah practiced mock interviews and brainstormed answers to potential questions in the event they were called back.
During Lochlan’s search, he found a job at the Kalamunda Transfer station, which is run by Workpower. This job seemed ideal for Lochlan as it seemingly met all the aspects that he was looking for.
“The following week, Lochlan was called in for an interview and a tour of the transfer station. Lochlan showed confidence, good values and work ethic in the job interview, he asked questions and remained focused and engaged,” Noah said, noting that this impressed the hiring team.
“After a few days he received the good news that he was selected for the role. He started working within a week of the interview.”
After securing the position, Lochlan said, “This is the best work environment I have been a part of… everyone is so friendly and happy to help!”
Thriving in his new role, Lochlan now works two days a week at the site. But, it doesn’t stop there – he continues his growth journey with ongoing support from Noah and he is currently working towards enrolling in an IT course with Tafe Thornlie.
