Workpower Staff Shine at WA NDS Awards

Three Workpower staff members were recently recognised for their outstanding work at the 2024 WA NDS Awards, held on Saturday 18 May at the Crown Ballroom.

Beth Stone was a finalist in the Excellence in Support Inclusions and Citizenship category. Beth has been a dedicated support worker for many years, going above and beyond to ensure her clients reach their goals and feel included in the community.

One of Beth's customers, Tilly Clements, along with her mother Leonie, spoke about the positive impact Beth has had on their lives. Leonie said, "Beth communicates and works with Tilly's therapists to provide her with a consistent and united front to support her to reach her goals. This has been very important for Tilly."

Tilly herself said, "Beth is awesome and has been supporting me since I was a little girl. She helps me cope with my anxiety, and I don't feel anxious now. She helps me put my headphones on when I feel overwhelmed. I have achieved meeting new friends."

Beth's dedication extends beyond her individual customers. She has spearheaded initiatives like the Workpower School Holiday Programs in the Peel Region, ensuring a fun and engaging environment for all participants. She also saw a gap in services in her area and created the "Craftability" Arts and Crafts program, providing a space for socialisation and skill development. Her efforts have been instrumental in helping participants build confidence and feel connected to their community.

Bithika Kastha was nominated for the Emerging Leader category. Bithika's nomination came from Jessy Mathews, the mother of Aanyah Mathews, who has benefitted from Workpower's School Holiday Program that Bithika initiated.

Jessy shared her experience, saying, "Bithika has made a measurable impact over the years she has been helping and supporting Aanyah in her overall development. She is a passionate advocate for contributing towards Aanyah's progress and the milestones that she has achieved at Workpower."

Bithika's dedication goes beyond simply providing support. She takes the time to understand each customers's individual needs and connects them with suitable support workers. Jessy highlighted Bithika's empathy and proactive approach, stating, "Bithika is very empathetic listener and she also provides suggestions and recommendations on improving Aanyah's wellbeing. Bithika exemplifies excellence in whatever she does."

Amanda McKenna was nominated for Innovation in Service Delivery for her outstanding work with visually impaired employees at Workpower Bentley. Amanda's nomination recognised her efforts in creating an inclusive workplace that empowers her team to succeed.

Salih Oztas, a visually impaired employee who has thrived under Amanda's guidance, expressed his appreciation, saying, "Amanda is very creative and amazing. She gets me to do everything that I couldn't do before. I'm really happy, doing cutlery and stacking the pallets, using the maverick. It has changed me a lot."

Amanda's approach focuses on understanding individual needs and leveraging available resources. She has equipped Salih with adaptive technologies and created a safe space for him to learn and grow. Salih's story exemplifies the impact of Amanda's dedication, transforming his work experience and boosting his confidence.

The nominations of Beth Stone, Bithika Kastha and Amanda McKenna are a testament to the exceptional work happening at Workpower.
