Introducing: Noble Jon!

Before Workpower, Jon worked in courier deliveries and at a local McDonald’s and has now spent over two decades at Geraldton’s Timber site. “I’ve worked here since 2002, so if Activ hadn’t shut down, this would’ve been my 22nd year,” he shares.

“When I heard that the site might shut down, I was really worried about what was going to happen, but when Workpower stepped in, that was a whole load off my shoulders. Just a name change and the same sort of work!”

Throughout his time at Workpower, Jon has developed a range of skills, particularly in the timber team. “Some skills that I’ve learned are making craypots that we stock in the shop. I started out on the pallets and then I learnt how to make materials for craypots. I learned how to cut timber and work in the machine shed. I enjoy being in the machine shed whenever I can,” he says.

“I have made a lot of friends here, and I like working alongside them,” he said.

Jon spoke about future opportunities, inspired by what he has learned in his role and the Support coaches who have guided him over the years. “I am thinking about and working towards being a leading hand. When we get some new employees, I can show them what we do.”

His advice to anyone considering joining Workpower is: “All you can do is try. There would be people there to help you if you were unsure.”
