Meet Lindsay!
Lindsay is the quintessential statesman of Workpower Geraldton, having worked within the timber team for 20 years!
His skills in woodwork contribute significantly to the productivity of the timber team, which specialises in crafting timber craypots and pallets.
Starting his career at a local supermarket, Lindsay found his way to the Geraldton site after his position was made redundant.
Finding appropriate and stimulating work was challenging for Lindsay, whose employment options are limited by epileptic turns and a disability.
Despite these challenges, Lindsay has found a role that he enjoys and excels in, he explains; "My favourite part is making parts for craypots. I make gates for craypots and sides for them too!"
"I've learned how to make craypots, drilling wood, putting wood through the saw. There are a couple of things that I can't do because I have epilepsy, and I have a disability. I get epileptic turns with no warning. You have no control over what you can do or say. Your brain just switches off."
Reflecting on his time at Workpower, Lindsay said, "I was very grateful when Workpower took over the worksite last year because the site would’ve closed down otherwise. With my disability, my medical problem, and my age, it would’ve been impossible for me to get a job elsewhere. So, I consider myself lucky that I even have a job."
His advice to others looking to join Workpower is: "Learn to do what you do, do what your supervisor tells you to do, and do it the best way you can do it."
