Workpower Kalgoorlie’s Successful First School Holiday Program
Workpower Kalgoorlie has completed its first School Holiday Program for children with disability, where participants shared in activities aimed to build social connections, living skills, and to support them to discover their interests and hobbies.
“We’re thrilled to bring this program to the Kalgoorlie community,” shared Nat Katsaros, Workpower’s General Manager of Regional Projects. “Workpower has over 15 years of experience developing programs such as the School Holiday Program, where we create inclusive spaces where everyone can enjoy themselves and explore their potential.”
Thanks to the generosity of Mineral Resources, Workpower Kalgoorlie received a $9,800 community grant to purchase new furniture, sports equipment, and art supplies. Additionally, it funded the creation of a new sensory room at the Kalgoorlie site, enhancing Workpower's ability to support participants with diverse support requirements.
“The Community Team at Mineral Resources have been so helpful, and we’re incredibly grateful for their donation which ensures we can offer amazing services here in the Goldfields,” Nat said.
Participants enjoyed a variety of activities planned by the Workpower team over the two-week school break. These included healthy cooking lessons with a chef specializing in international cuisine, sports and game activities, arts and crafts, and work experience.
The program also celebrated NAIDOC Week with games, stories, art, and science experiments that highlighted the vibrant community.
“It’s fantastic that we can offer a program with such a variety of activities. There’s something for everyone, and participants can choose what interests them the most.”
A highlight of the program was the Work Experience Day, where participants got hands-on exposure to potential future career paths. They helped with tasks like potting seedlings, observed Workpower’s property crew, and explored the packaging and warehousing areas. Workpower’s friendly staff were available to answer questions and discuss future aspirations.
Workpower Kalgoorlie looks forward to running its School Holiday Program into the future. If you think your child might be interested in attending next school holidays, please get in touch with Workpower’s Customer Engagement Managers at info@workpower.asn.au or call 1800 610 665.
